Biography

Imran Khan (1987) comes from a family of traditional musicians. Imran started playing tabla at the age of 7 and learned from the best — his grandfather is the great tabla Maestro Ustad Faiyaz Khan, with whom he has shared the stage on several occasions.

In the past decade Imran Khan has accompanied many renowned artists and given many solo performances, both in India and internationally — across Japan, Korea, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia and Nigeria. His performances have been broadcast on TV frequently, and some are available online.

In 2019, and from 2022 to this date, Imran undertakes his own tours to Europe, playing with artists from both Europe and India. Next to performing, he is an enthusiastic teacher, accompanying students at Delhi's famous Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, and works online with students from across Europe and the US.

Lessons

Imran is a dedicated tabla teacher. He has been teaching at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi since 2005, alongside international students who take online tabla classes or visit his home for private lessons when in India.

Imran often teaches while on tour — private lessons, workshops and masterclasses at institutions and events including Codarts and SKVR School Rotterdam (NLD), Hytt Dreva Festival (SWE), Warsztaty Bębniarskie Poznań (POL) and Modal Music Prague (CZE).

Whether you want to focus on Indian classical and folk repertoire, or play another instrument entirely and are looking for new rhythmic inspiration — Imran adjusts his classes to what you need.
